Turning Tradition: The Story of Creamore Mill
Nestled in the peaceful Shropshire countryside, Creamore Mill stands as a remarkable example of British craftsmanship and heritage. Since its founding in 1981, the workshop has been dedicated to creating beautifully designed, functional home and garden accessories that evoke traditional style and enduring quality.
The origins of Creamore Mill trace back to a modest ten-foot-square wash house, where John Buckland began crafting with just a few tools and a single lathe. Using locally sourced timber, those early pieces set the foundation for a brand that values both simplicity and durability.
As demand grew, the Buckland family moved operations to Creamore Mill itself—a historic corn and wood mill with a rich history. Although the building was initially in disrepair, the family’s restoration efforts revived its legacy, reconnecting the site with its centuries-old association with woodworking and turning.
Today, Creamore Mill continues as a family-run workshop, with John’s wife Cathryn and their five sons contributing to its growth. Sons Sam and Oliver now play leading roles, blending traditional handcraft with modern innovation to maintain the artisan spirit.
Despite embracing mechanisation, the workshop retains a strong commitment to handwork. Every step—from design through to dispatch—takes place under one roof, preserving the integrity and attention to detail that defines the brand.
With over four decades of experience and a loyal following among independent retailers across the UK and overseas, Creamore Mill remains a testament to the enduring value of heritage craftsmanship. It’s a place where wood, family, and tradition come together to create timeless pieces meant to last.
